What is YHVH’s Kingdom?
People of faith believe there is an unseen, spiritual Kingdom of YHVH. That may sound confusing or even ridiculous to those who don’t believe in anything they can’t see, feel, taste, touch or smell. It is actually a wonder that so many do stake their lives on something Unseen.
As i write this I can hear a windstorm blowing outside.. I can’t see the wind but I can sure hear it. As I look out the window I can tell by the bending trees and swaying branches that it’s blowing back and forth from the South and rebounding to the North. John 3:8. It’s a lot easier for me to describe the effects of the wind than to just tell you it exists. That is also how I will describe the Kingdom of God.
Before microscopic things were brought into view by microscopes or telescopes were able to increase our ability to bring planets into view, people had all kinds of wrong thinking about microorganisms, human cells and the solar system.
2 Corinthians 4:17 says,…we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
This life and everything we see is, without question, temporary. So how can anyone be confident that there is another reality, a Kingdom that’s lasting. A completely different kingdom than the one we all live in now. One that we are spiritually separated from by our human nature. A Kingdom where Love reigns.
Luke 17:20 The Pharisees questioned Jesus about when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with something observable; 21 no one will say, ‘Look here!’ or ‘There!’ For you see, the kingdom of God is within you.”
Remember when you were a child and heard your first warning about the germs on some piece of food you just dropped on the floor? I personally had no problem believing in unseen germs as a child. In my imagination I could see these invisible bad “germs” all over the floor and even to this day I cringe just watching someone eat something they dropped on the floor. Children are quick to believe, quick to love, quick to forgive and give mercy, not holding grudges or easily offended. Because of their lack of pride they are naturally humble and obedient when disciplined.
Matthew 18:3-4 “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
There comes a point in our lives when we start to doubt and think critically. We learn to discern what is true and what is not by asking questions and searching for truth. Eventually we all come up with our own private logic.
Our Creator has not left us without His Living, Unchanging, Words of Truth. A plum line, to know the straight Way, a level t show right from wrong and good from bad. It is as sure as gravity and liquid for showing the Light of Truth in a world in bondage to darkness.
Acts 17:11 The people here were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, since they welcomed the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
We are told to examine the Scriptures daily to see if what we are believing is True. So what did Jesus mean when He said no one will enter the Kingdom of heaven unless they become like that lowly, humble and trusting child?
It’s obvious we are not supposed to be naive and gullible, believing everything we hear without checking it to the original teachings given to Moses, referred to in Hebrew as the Torah.
Matthew 10:16 “Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves.
Little children are as harmless as doves but God’s Word, the Torah, and all every teaching that matches up to it, has a lot to say about gaining spiritual wisdom and being shrewd.
Children have the ability to believe in the reality of God’s Unseen, Eternal Kingdom because they have not yet made ego their master. But eventually we do become wise in our own eyes. Pride displaces that humility and the battle begins in the depth of our inner most being. We being expecting to have our own way, become easily offended, our feelings control our moods and we react hatefully and selfishly, without any restraint, like puppets we allow those stings to control us.
We can’t understand why or how God allows pain and suffering as the tools that mold us back into the attitude of a humble child. But He does discipline those He Loves. ( Hebrews 12:6; Proverbs 3:12 )
Acts 14:22b “It is necessary to pass through many troubles on our way into the kingdom of God.”
God’s Word is quite clear in describing the difference between two very opposite kingdoms, but first we need to understand the exact definition of a kingdom:
- A country, state, or territory ruled by a king or queen.
- A realm associated with or regarded as being under the control of a particular person or thing.
Jesus referred to God as “His Father and our Father.” We are all His creation, and His children. He was the fulfillment of the promise that freed mankind spiritually to enter His Kingdom . Romans 5:9-11 But there’s only one way to enter His Kingdom and that way is humility. Following the example of a humble servant, the way Jesus modeled for all to know. He was lowly and humble of heart, Matthew 11:28-30; Isaiah 57:14-16; Luke 1:51-53 laying down everything, pride, rights and grudge holding,
Thanks to God’s mercy, everything in this kingdom is temporary. Genesis 3:22 tells us that The LORD God said, “Since man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil, he must not reach out, take from the tree of life, eat, and live forever.”
God protected us from that second tree, and from the option of living like this forever. It’s only ’till death do us part and we are free from God’s adversary, (Satan). Even followers of Jesus, living here and now in the Kingdom of God, have to deal with this temporary adversary until the day their flesh dies.
God is Sovereign over everything in His creation, even over evil. He is Just and Fair, He is Faithful and True, His plan for our deliverance is perfect, made from before the creation of the world. Titus 1:1-3 ,2 Timothy 1:8-10 , 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 , John 17:4-6
This curse of deception we have fallen under is pride, ego, the selfish desire to be our own god and have our own way. Everything in our nature desires to be “under the control of “and “ruled by” our self or ego. We are blind spiritually and cannot see our spiritual bondage to this lie unless we learn to humble ourselves and lay down our pride, obediently following the way to freedom, the way of Love, the only way back to God Who is Love. Romans 8:20-22 , 1 Corinthians 14:1-3 , John 14:5-7 , 1 John 4:15-17
1 Corinthians 15:50 Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit in-corruption.
Flesh and Blood VS Spirit
There will be no flesh and blood, nothing physical, in God’s Kingdom. Flesh and blood can be defined as; fearful, cynical, prideful, unloving, unforgiving, judgmental, self-righteous, self-serving, self-anything, grudge holders and idolaters, (anything you desire above God), will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:18-20
The Spiritual is opposed to the flesh, Galatians 5:16-24 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Romans 14:17 the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Spirit.
The Illusion of our own, third, Kingdom
Reality is that there are only two kingdoms, one is flesh and blood in the physical realm and one is Spirit.
When mankind, Adam and Eve chose to be “like gods,” their own rulers, all creation fell, died, from the light of God’s rule. But it was a lie that put them in the chains of death, the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. Ephesians 6:11-13 , 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
Our hope is in the One Who Created us, He has the power to raise us from the dead, 1 Corinthians 6:14.
Paul is instructed to open peoples eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me, Acts 26:17; Acts 26:18.
Mark 4: 10-12 To you has been entrusted the mystery of the kingdom of God [that is, the secret counsels of God which are hidden from the ungodly]; but for those outside [of our circle] everything becomes a parable, 12 In order that they may [indeed] look and look but not see and perceive, and may hear and hear but not grasp and comprehend, lest haply they should turn again, and it [their willful rejection of the truth] should be forgiven them.
The Kingdom of God is a mystery that has been entrusted only to those who ask for the faith to see it, through childlike eyes and imagination. It is not for the proud and ungodly to grasp or comprehend it because they willfully reject the Truth. (James 1:13)
Revelation 17:17 For God has put it into their hearts to carry out His plan by having one purpose and to give their kingdom to the beast until God’s words are accomplished.
The Only Lasting Kingdom
Pride keeps us from asking God for faith to perceive truth with Spiritual sight and He gives generously to all who ask, without fault finding. He has set us free from the kingdom of pride by His Way of humility. 2 Peter 1:10-12 ; Matthew 25:33-35 , James 1:5-7
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
The deceiver knows how to keep us blind with doubt, confusion and fear, he will even lead us to think we enjoy whatever it is we have placed about our Creator.
It is only Truth that Sets us Free, John 8:32
God’s Word is Truth and His Truth became flesh and blood to free us from our bondage to deception. We have been bought and paid for by the Covenant blood. We remind ourselves that we take part in this promise every time we take communion. 1 Corinthians 11:23-25
This is our hope, and the Good News of God’s Kingdom. We must be obedient to share the Truth that all people are free to enter God’s Kingdom. Trusting God, humbly receiving His implanted Word and being obedient to what it says;
“Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:26-28
