Love is God’s Way

Love is God’s Way

It’s the only Way to eternal Life.  One often misunderstood quote that Jesus taught is: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life…”  Which immediately alienates those who miss the point that Jesus is saying, He is God’s Way.

I know it’s an offensive statement, it was to me anyway.  It never made sense and bothered me that I knew of many people who died and were continuing to die without knowing about the Way.  I was upset with religion, confused but thankfully, intrigued enough to ask God to help me understand.

Have you ever stepped back and observed religion as a whole?  Not viewing it through your own filter, since we all tend to think our own opinions are the only right ones.  Instead, attempting to see things through the eyes of an all-knowing and all-seeing God.

It may be humanly impossible, but sometimes I get the slightest glimpse that makes my eyes fill with tears as I see the beauty of all the differences kinds of devotion people are giving to their religion.

Personally, I’d been confusing religion with God most of my life.  Only until I began devoting my time to seeking God before all else, (that means food, sleep and any of my own desires) did I realize how undefinable and how much bigger than a religion He really is.

There’s a song I love called, “What do I Know of Holy.”  “You spoke us into motion.”  When we say the word Universe we are saying, One verse.  There is something so powerful about God speaking that He said, “let there be light, and there was light.”

There’s a connection with God sending His Word to dwell among us and the Way.  Not the way to start a new religion.   He sent His Word, His Covenant/promise so that all of us would have a way back to reality, the real life, lasting, eternal life, once again with Him.

His Way is not a religion, it’s the way to reconciliation and freedom from our bondage to our ego, pride and self-centeredness.

Jesus suffered much and was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin.  He taught us what the Way looks like, to love, forgive, give mercy, be humble and serve others.  He willingly gave His life and shed His blood to redeem us from a debt that we couldn’t pay.  That is the beauty of His unmerited gift called Grace.  It’s for all who humbly believe/have  faith/trust in the implanted Word that is able to save our souls, James 1:20-22 .

Faith is believing in things unseen, trusting God’s Word before we see the evidence of His promise, like Abraham, the Father of all who believe, Romans 4:10-12, even though he died long before he saw the fulfillment of God’s promise, he never doubted.  God gave His Word while we were unfaithful, before we were good enough or worthy.  We don’t have to earn His Love, God is Love, we only have to be obedient enough to follow His Way, because it’s the only Way back to Him.

James 2:13-15  Is our faith the kind that can save us?  Our faith works together with our actions.  We believe that God is One, well and good.  Even the evil spirits believe that and tremble with fear.  Just as our body without the Spirit is dead, so faith without action is dead by itself.

What does God’s Way look like?

Micah 6:7-9  “To do justice, (do right), and to love kindness, (love mercy), and to walk humbly with your God?”

James 2:12-14  Judgement is merciless to the one who shows no mercy, but Mercy triumphs over judgement.

James 1:26-27 “True religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

Luke 10:26-28  “What is written in the teaching? And he answered,“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

Okay, let’s sum up what the Way looks like;  The Ten Commandments are covered by Loving God and loving people.  Mercy not judging.  Forgiving and we will be forgiven, being compassionate, sharing what we have with the poor and needy, welcoming the stranger in your land, blessing those who curse you, praying for those who persecute you, giving your enemy a drink if they are thirsty, if they take your coat give your shirt too, it they force you to go a mile go with them two, repay evil with good.  Eph. 4:32  Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.  Eph. 5:20  giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in The Name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, 21  submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

What does the fruit of His Spirit living in you looks like: Love, Joy, Peace, Patients, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control. Galatians 5:21-23

That’s what God’s Way looks like, it’s the difficult Way.

Below is a brief summary of the worlds way, which is quite the contrast, and our human nature prefers the easy way.

God also warns us what things will not be apart of His Kingdom, Ephesians 4:30-32Ephesians 5:3-5 :  No bitterness, wrath, clamor, anger, slander, criticism, condemning, malice,  filthiness, crude joking, foolish talk, sexual immorality, impurity or covetousness will inherit the Kingdom of God.  Eph. 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, meaning sensuality, Synonyms: corruptionvicedepravityimmoralityiniquitylibertinism, licentiousnessprofligacysin.  Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
