Would Jesus Celebrate Easter?

Jesus Would Have Celebrated God’s Spring Festivals

When Easter Was Added, Passover/Unleavened Bread/First-fruits Were Subtracted.

Deuteronomy 4:2  You must not Add to or Subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD YHVH (#3068) your God that I am giving you.

Jesus Did Not Add to, or Subtract from, Torah

Many Christians today don’t even know Jesus rose from the grave on First-fruits, not Easter.  Even after I learned about the origins of Easter I continued to justify it by saying, “it’s not about the Bunny and eggs, it’s about the resurrection of the Lamb of God.”

That was before I began to study the Torah and Prophets for myself and make the connection between the “First-fruits” offered at the Festival of Passover/Unleavened Bread, and Jesus the “First-born” from the dead, Psalm 89:27.

Colossians 1:18 He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

1 Corinthians 15:20 But Christ/Messiah has indeed been raised from the dead, the First-fruits of those who have fallen asleep/died.

Revelation 1:5  and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood,

When I read that Israel’s unfaithfulness included the fertility goddess Ashtoreth, called Ishtar by the Caananites, Istar in Greek, Eastra in Saxon and Easter in English, I no longer considered the smallest trace of it as harmless fun.

1 Kings 11:33  because they have forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and they have not walked in my ways, doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my rules, as David his father did.

Understanding the Spiritual Meaning of First-fruits

First-fruits is a translated term from the original Hebrew words, Rosh, #7218 meaning First, Head or Beginning.  Bakar, #1069 is the root of the words used to describe the First of the Harvest and the First-born.

The First part of all Increase, is Set-apart/Holy/Sacred, Qadosh #6918 for a reason.  On the week of the Passover, the First-fruit of the Barley Harvest is waved before YHVH #3068, the Eternal Name of God.

The High Priest waves the Sheaf on the day after the Sabbath/Saturday following Passover.  It’s always waved on the First day of the week, Sunday.

Leviticus 23:11 And he (the priest) shall wave the Sheaf (Omer #6016) before the LORD YHVH #3068 so that it may be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath.

The year Jesus fulfilled the purpose of the Passover Lamb, First-fruits landed on the Third day of the Seven day Festival of Passover/Unleavened Bread, Jonah 2:2-6.

Matthew 12:40  for, as Jonah was in the belly of the Big Fish, (Dag #1709 Gadol #1419) Three days and Three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth Three days and Three nights.

Now here’s the Good News, when the First-fruits were Accepted, (Ratzon #7522) by YHVH it meant the entire harvest was Blessed.

Our Creator instituted the physical First-fruits to reveal His Spiritual First-fruits.  Jesus Is the First-born from the dead, and that means All peoples/nations/families will inherit YHVH’s Unconditional/Spiritual Blessing: Genesis 12:3; Genesis 18:18Genesis 22:18…

Galatians 3:8  The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles/Nations by faith, and foretold the Gospel/Good News to Abraham: “All Nations will be blessed through you.”

This Spiritual insight isn’t made clear by Celebrating Easter or by worshiping our Creator anyway but His Way.

Deuteronomy 12:4 You shall not worship the LORD YHVH your God in that way.

Leviticus 18:30  You must keep My instructions not to practice any of the abominable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them. I Am the LORD YHVH your God.”

His Appointed Times are Set in the Sky

Genesis 1:14 And God said, “Let there be Lights, (Maor #3974 from Or # 215) in the expanse of the sky to distinguish, (Badal #914) between the day and the night, and let them be Signs/a Witness, (Oth #226) for Appointed Times, (Moed #4150)and Days and Years.

The constellations (Mazzaroth #4216) have perpetually revealed the unchanging Truth/Reality of YHVH’s, (He Is, Was and Will Be) Appointed Times, Days and Years.

Psalm 119:89 Forever, O LORD YHVH (#3069) your Word is Set/Stands (Natzab #5324) in the heavens/sky (shamayim #8064).

1 Peter 1:25 but the Word of the Lord YHVH Stands Forever.” And this is the Word that was proclaimed to you.

From creation YHVH’s Word Is Set, it Stands Forever,        Holy/Perfect/Spiritual; Deuteronomy 7:9; Zephaniah 3:5Hebrews 6:171 Thessalonians 5:24; Romans 7:14.

Torah Is the Foundation of Truth

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, (by YHVH’s Torah) which Is Jesus/Yehoshua (YHVH Is Salvation) Christ/Messiah (Anointed by YHVH.)

Like the 1st Century Bereans, who searched the “Scriptures” daily, we continue to test every teaching to the “Torah” because it remains YHVH’s plum-line of Truth.

Keep in mind the “New Testament” did not exist in the 1st Century.  The “Scriptures” always refer to the “Torah, Prophets and the Writings” that match up to Truth.

Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

The Day Easter Was Officially Christianized

In the year 196 AD a group of religious leaders made some big changes to YHVH’s Sacred/Holy/Set-Apart Appointed Times, Days and Years.  At the Council of Nicaea, 325 A.D., the changes were made official.

Subtracting all of YHVH’s Holy Days and Years, including Passover, Unleavened Bread and First-Fruits, they Added “Easter” and began calling Passover/Unleavened Bread “Communion.”

To Add their own “New” religion they had to Subtract the Torah and Prophets, calling them “Old,” as in antiquated.  As a matter of fact, every “New” religion has to subtract Torah by discrediting it in some way, because the Command is so clear:

Deuteronomy 12:32 “See that you do everything I command you; do not add to it or subtract from it.”

Proverbs 30:6  “Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.”

All added religious traditions, along with a few bias Bible translations, make it appear like Jesus started a “New” religion, but He said He taught nothing of His own.

John 7:16  “My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.

John 14:10  “Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me?  The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His work.

John 14:24  “Whoever does not love Me does not keep My Words. The Word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.”

Jesus Renewed the Broken Physical Covenant

Our Creator, YHVH, calls the world’s ways an abomination.  The people who worshiped false gods did detestable things; sacrificing their babies in the fire and committing Temple Shrine prostitution to appeased the gods.

It was so prevalent, Israel eventually broke the conditional Covenant they made at Mt. Sinai and began doing the same things:  Deuteronomy 12:30, 31Deuteronomy 23:17Leviticus 18:21Leviticus 20:23Jeremiah 19:5Jeremiah 32:35Ezekiel 16:212 Kings 17:17Psalm 78:59Psalm 106:37.

This is why a follower of Jesus is to remain “Set-apart” from the world.  The Way of Truth and Life will always look counter-cultural, and quite frankly we’ve been told the world hates those, like Jesus, who obey YHVH’s Torah:  John 15:18, 19; Matthew 10:22; Matthew 24:9; 1 John 3:13Proverbs 29:27…

Isaiah 66:5 You who tremble at His Word, hear the Word of the LORD YHVH: “Your brothers who hate and exclude you because of My Name have said, ‘Let the LORD YHVH be glorified that we may see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.”

Did Jesus Celebrate Communion or Passover?

Luke 22:19;Matthew 26:26; Mark 14:221 Corinthians 11:24  “and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, given for you.  Do this in remembrance of me.”

Yehoshua is the original Hebrew Name of Jesus, it means, YHVH Is Salvation.  He was much more that a righteous Jewish Rabbi.  He Is, Was and always Will Be, the Salvation of our Spiritual Creator.  He says He Is The Living One, who died and is now alive forever and ever…, Revelation 1:18.

Yehoshua revealed that Passover/First-fruits and eating Unleavened Bread for seven days pointed to His Sinless Body and the Passover Wine was His own Covenant Blood.

Luke 22:20; Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; 1 Corinthians 11:25   In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new Renewed Covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.

What I’ve always known as “Communion” now has a depth of Spiritual meaning that can only come from connecting it to the annual Passover Covenant.

Unlike the conditional/physical Covenant, given to Moses at Mt. Sinai, we now know every detail revealed the unconditional/spiritual Covenant cut by our Heavenly High Priest, Yehoshua:

Hebrews 8:1  We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2and who ministers in the sanctuary and true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. 3And since every High Priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer.

Romans 6:5 For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in resurrection.

The Physical Was a Copy and Shadow of the Spiritual/Heavenly

The first Passover, witnessed by Moses and the conditional/physical covenant, at Mt. Sinai, was the Copy and Shadow of the Heavenly/Spiritual;  Exodus 25:9Exodus 26:30Exodus 25:40; Exodus 27:8; Numbers 8:4Acts 7:44.

Hebrews 8:5  “They serve a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle, “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”

The New Testament Reveals the Renewed/Spiritual Covenant

The Hebrew word Chadash #2318, means ReNew, Restore, Repair.

The Torah remains Spiritually complete from the foundation of the world, Matthew 13:35; Hebrews 4:3.  So a more accurate translation for the “New” Testament writings would be the “Renewed” Covenant.

Jesus did not add any New Testaments/Covenants.  He did not begin any New religion.  YHVH Is One and there is only One Spirit of Truth, Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29.

Jesus “Renewed” the prophesied Spiritual Covenant, (see YHVH’s unconditional Covenant with Abraham that would bless All people of the earth, Genesis 12:3; Acts 3:25.

He only exposed the additions and subtractions of the religious leaders, (legalism) and He revealed what Moses and the Prophets said was about Him; Matthew 1:22; Luke 18:31; Luke 22:37; Luke 24:27…

Luke 24:44  Then he (Jesus) said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law (Torah) of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

From the 1st Physical Adam to the 1st Spiritual Adam

1 Corinthians 15:45; Genesis 2:7,  and so it has been written, “The first man (adam #120) is of the dust of the ground…” The last man is the Lord YHVH’s Life-giving Spirit.

The First Adam knew YHVH’s Torah, the Way of Truth and Life.  Adam’s son, Cain, also knew but when it came to offering First-fruits Cain didn’t do what he knew was right.

Genesis 4:5  …He, (YHVH #3068) did not Look with Favor (Shaah #8159) on Cain or his offering.  So Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.  6.“Why are you angry,” said the LORD YHVH to Cain, “and why has your countenance fallen?  7. If you do what is right you will be Accepted.  But if you refuse to do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it’s your desire, but you must master it.”

For those who haven’t read the story, Cain didn’t do what he knew was right, he didn’t master his emotions, and he murdered his brother Abel.

We may wonder why Adam, Eve and Cain chose to do wrong when they knew what was right.  But 4,000 years later, when the same Light of Truth came into the world the judgement remained that mankind loves the darkness rather than the Light, John 3:19.

YHVH’s Torah Is The Light, Proverbs 6:23 and Jesus Is The Light, John 8:12.

The Physical Reveals The Spiritual

1 Corinthians 15:46  But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, (physical) and then the spiritual.

At YHVH’s Appointed Time, The Word (Torah) became flesh, John 1:14  just as prophesied, the promised Seed/Messiah Yehoshua came in the Name of YHVH, Psalm 118:26; Matthew 21:9; Matthew 23:39; Mark 11:9; Luke 13:35; Luke 19:38; John 12:13.

Despite some confusing translations, Yehoshua made sure no one would think He abolished/subtracted the Torah or the Prophets, He fulfilled them:

Matthew 5:17-19 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (Torah) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.  For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or tittle, will pass from the Law (Torah) until all is accomplished.  So then, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

So even if an Angel from God teaches you a different Good News than YHVH revealed to mankind through His Torah, and all the Writings that match up, test it before believing it.

Even if we or an Angel from God teaches the Good News differently, let them be cursed, (removed from God’s Favor), Galatians 1:8.

  1. I enjoyed this nice summation. I can honestly say I understood next to nothing that I learned in “Christianity” until I began keeping the feasts. Then I understood I couldn’t identify as a “Christian” any longer. I’m simply a believer now.
