Love Makes Us a Child of God
According to the teachings of Jesus, we are born into a physical world where everything we see, taste, touch, smell and hear will eventually perish. As the grass withers, the flower fades and so it is with the mortal body, they will all turn back to dust. 1 Peter 1:24; Job 14:2; Job 34:15; Psalm 103:15; Psalm 104:29; Isaiah 40:6; James 1:10; Genesis 2:7; Genesis 3:19; Ecclesiastes 3:20; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Luke 23:46; Acts 7:59; Numbers 16:22; Numbers 27:16; Zechariah 12:1.
Apparently, this is the reason mankind has a need to be “Born from above.” Nothing perishable can perceive or enter the Spiritual Kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 15:50.
We are born once a child of the physical and born again as a child of the Spiritual.
A child is one who takes on the nature of their father. If we obey our selfish physical desires our father is the one who will perish, the slanderer, John 8:44
Anyone who chooses Love is a child of God, 1 John 4:7
Love is imperishable and it is our obedience to God’s instruction to love that purifies our hearts. A clean heart is born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God, 1 Peter 1:23
Jesus is The Word of God and God is Love
It is through the Word of God we realize Truth and become aware of deception. In the time of Jesus God’s Word was referred to in Hebrew as Torah, meaning Teachings of God. Along with these five sacred books of Moses the scriptures included writings of the prophets who spoke the Words of God, Job, Psalms, Proverbs and all other writings that matched the original plum line of God’s original Spiritual Message, Romans 7:14.
Jesus is referred to as God’s Son and the Son of man and He was both. It was prophesied beforehand that Immanuel, with us is God, would be born of a virgin, Isaiah 7:14, 7th century B.C.
Early in the first century A.D. God’s Word became flesh and made His dwelling or Sukkot among mankind, John 1:14; Luke 1:31. The Imperishable Word or Seed of God was born into the perishable seed of mankind. This Good News was to cause great joy to all people, Luke 2:10. (Not just those who knew about it)
How Does the Good News Make Us Born from Above?
When Jesus used the phrase, Born from Above, it confounded even the most highly educated religious leaders of His time. Here is the reply of Nicodemus, a Jewish Pharisee;
“How can someone be born when they are old?” “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” John 3:4
Like Nicodemus, we tend to think physically when trying to make sense of Spiritual mysteries. But all of us know there is something Greater than our five senses. The Unseen Creator of the Universe has made His invisible qualities evident by what He has made, no one will have an excuse, Romans 1:20.
Jesus said, only the childlike would enter the Spiritual Kingdom of God, Luke 18:17. To be Born from above is to be changed from our prideful human nature to the humble nature of our Heavenly Father. To be childlike is to be quick to love, not easily offended and holding grudges, they are quick to forgive and give mercy.
The Good News is that mankind’s bad behavior did not separate us from God permanently. Adam and Eve were not allowed to eat from the Tree of Life, they went to their graves trusting in God’s promise of a Seed, Genesis 3:15.
Consequently, just as one transgression, (of Adam) resulted in condemnation for all people, so also through one righteous act, (of Jesus), righteousness of life became available to all people, Romans 5:18.
Our Hope as a Child of God
This is why all creation waits eagerly for the day the children of God will be revealed, when every eye will see, every knee will bow and every tongue will acknowledge the One Who gave them Life, Revelation 1:7; Romans 8:19; Isaiah 45:23; Romans 14:11.
On that day we will all be rewarded according to what we did, we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.2 Corinthians 5:10; Romans 14:10; Revelation 22:12. It will be a day of great fear and trembling for most but a Child of God knows the nature of their Father, 1 John 4:17
“So we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16
Becoming a son or child of God is purely a spiritual term. The term Son in the original Hebrew literally means Descendant. Figuratively, it refers to those sharing the same nature as their Spiritual or Heavenly Father.
Hyiós, is the Greek word translated as Son and also refers equally to both male and female. It is obedience to Devine Love that makes us a Child, Hier and Offspring of God, Galatians 3:28.
