The Day of Atonements; Yom Kipurim

The Day of Atonements Is Our Creator’s 6th Holy Festival

You can call them Jewish Holy days, but you’d be wrong.  There’s a reason the Creator of the universe, YHVH, (He Was, He Is, He Shall Be), says they are, “His Appointed Days, Leviticus 23:2.

The Day of Atonements, was physically modeled by Israel and foreshadowed YHVH’s Spiritual Atonement of All mankind.  It begins the 10th day of the 7th Lunar Month, Leviticus 23:27; Isaiah 66:23Psalm 86:9Revelation 15:4

“for it is on this Day that Atonement shall be made for you to cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before the LORD YHVH.” Leviticus 16:30

Atonement, comes from the Hebrew root word, Kopher #3724.  It literally means, to CoverLike Noah was instructed to Cover, (Kaphar #2722b) the Ark in pitchGenesis 6:14

And the “Mercy Seat” was the “Cover” on the Ark of the Covenant

“You shall put The Mercy Seat, (Kapporeth #3727 from Kopher) on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony (The Ten Commandments) which I will give to you.  Exodus 25:21; Hebrews 9:5

“He shall put the incense on the fire before YHVH, that the cloud of incense may conceal (#3680 Kasah) The Mercy Seat, (Kopher #3727)… Leviticus 16:13

To have Mercy and To Cover, both come from the Hebrew verb Kaphar, (3722).  Both represent Atonement: to Reconcile, to Redeem, to Repair, to make Propitiation, to expiate, to Pardon, to Forgive, to Give Mercy, to Pay a debt or Ransom.

Yom Kippur (#3725) means, Day of Atonement.  It is one and the same as The Day of Judgement Both Judgement and Mercy are appointed on this day.

For Judgment without Mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been Merciful.  Mercy triumphs over Judgment. James 2:13

Mercy is Given to Those Who Give Mercy:

“Blessed are the Merciful, for they will be shown Mercy.” Matthew 5:7

“With the Merciful you show Yourself Merciful,” 2 Samuel 22:26

“For if you Forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also Forgive you.”  Matthew 6:14; Matthew 6:15; Mark 11:26

“…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.” Matthew 25:40

“In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law (Torah) and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12

“For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done.” Matthew 16:27; Matthew 18:35; 2 Timothy 4:14; Psalm 62:12;  Jeremiah 32:19; Romans 2:6; Job 34:11; Proverbs 12:14; Proverbs 24:12; Revelation 2:23

Many believe Jesus, His Hebrew Name Yehoshua, “Saved” them from the curse of sin and death, but refuse to confess and turn (repent) to enter “Life.”  We cannot enter Life with un-forgiveness, hateful grudges, bitterness, negativity, partiality, or any other rebellion.

To Believe is the Hebrew word, Aman #539.  It means to trust faithfully.  Belief is an action, like a tent peg driven into a Secure, (Aman) place,” Isaiah 22:23.

Like Abraham, who did what God said because he Believed, Genesis 15:6Genesis 26:5

To Humble or Afflict Your Souls?

“This shall be a permanent statute for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall Humble/Afflict (עָנָה Anah #6031) your souls (נֶפֶשׁ Nephesh #5315) and not do any work, whether the native, or the alien who sojourns among you; Leviticus 16:29

‘Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall Humble (Anah) yourselves; (Nephesh) you shall not do any work.” Numbers 29:7

The Fast true is more than simply denying yourself (Nephesh) of food and water for 24 hours.  Isaiah prophesies the results will bring a change, in order to humble your soul (Nephesh)Isaiah 58:6-Isaiah 58:9.

“And there by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a Fast, (צוֹם Tzom) so that we might Humble (עָנָה Anah) ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.” Ezra 8:21

“Day of Atonement” is Called “The Fast”

“By now much time had passed, and the voyage had already become dangerous because it was after The Fast, (Day of Atonement) So Paul advised them,”  Acts 27:9; Leviticus 23:27

We All Need Mercy Because We All Sin

“Surly there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” Ecclesiastes 7:20

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

The Day of Atonement for All the Earth

“He Himself is the Atoning Sacrifice for our sins, not only ours but the sins of the whole world,” 1 John 2:2.

Picture this, once a year Israel’s High Priest entered the Holy Temple to make atonement for sin, on the horns of the incense alter, with the requirement of blood, Exodus 30:10; Leviticus 17:11; Leviticus 16:15; Leviticus 16:18.

The picture of the physical High Priest, was the copy of the Spiritual Hight Priest, Jesus or Yehoshua; meaning YHVH Is Salvation.

Life is in the blood, and that means Spiritual Life.  Our Spiritual High Priest entered the Spiritual Temple, not made by human hands, and atoned for mankind’s sin, with His own blood, Hebrews 9:24.

Hebrews 9 explains this in detail,

Confess, Turn to The Way of Life, and Be Immersed

Torah reveals it was the “Confessed” sins of the people that were forgiven, Leviticus 26:401 John 1:9.

“He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever Confesses and renounces(turns from) them will find Mercy.” Proverbs 28:13; Psalm 32:5; Job 31:33Genesis 3:8

When Adam concealed, or hid his sin in his heart, it was because he transgressed the Covenant of Life he made with YHVH, Hosea 6:7; Romans 5:14.

The curse or consequence of sin is still death; separation from the Spirit of our Creator.

For in Adam all die, but in Messiah All will be made Alive, 1 Corinthians 15:22Romans 5:12.

Our Creator gives Mercy to All who Confess and Return to His Spiritual Covenant of Life.

The fruit, or actions, of Spiritual Life is evident by our obedience in Keep YHVH’s Commandments.  The Way of Life, from the beginning, is summed up by our Faithful and Merciful Loving Kindness toward Him and one anotherJohn 13:351 John 3:14.

The 10 Days of Awe

During the ten days between the Day of Trumpets and Day of Atonement we have time to prepare.  It’s time to do some soul searching in the Light of YHVH’s Everlasting Word of Truth, Psalm 119:160.

Just like King David asked, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the Way everlasting, Psalm 139:23Psalm 139:24.

‘The sum of Your Word is Truth, And every one of Your Righteous ordinances is Everlasting,” Psalm 119:160

Sanctify/Cleanse them by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.” John 17:17; Ephesians 5:26
