What is The Good News?

Do We Understand The “Good News” Like Adam Did?

The Good News predates all of mankind’s religious divisions because it has existed from the beginning.  Adam and Eve died with hope in the promise that one day death would be destroyed:

And I will put enmity between you (the serpent/death) and the woman, (Israel/Spiritual) and between your seed (offspring) and her Seed (Jesus/Spiritual Life).  He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15

This ancient Hebrew metaphor may sound obscure in English but the Hebrew Scriptures clarify these meanings and reveal a picture of the One who will have the final victory over death:

Romans 16 20 crush satan

“For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:26

*We can find other metaphors of Victory in Scripture:  To put an enemy under your Feet, to Crush your enemies Head, to Make your enemy a Footstool.  Even in English these idioms portray Victory:  Joshua 10:24; 2 Samuel 22:39Hebrews 1:13.

 The Victorious Good News!

How Lovely (נָאָה naah #4994) on the mountains are the feet bringing Good News, (בָּשַׂר Basar #1319), to Comprehend, (שָׁמַע Shama #8085) Peace, (שָׁלוֹם Shalom #7965), to bear glad tidings, (בָּשַׂר Basar #1319) of Good(טוֹב Tov #2896), Comprehending, (שָׁמַע Shama #8085) Salvation/Victory/Deliverance, (יְשׁוּעָה Yeshuah #3444) and saying to Tzion, (צִיּוֹן Tziyon #6726) Your God Reigns (מָלַךְ Malak #4427)!” Isaiah 52:7

“And how can they proclaim unless they are sent?  As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News!” Romans 10:15 is quoting Isaiah 52:7.

Can we comprehend the Good News of Jesus as foretold by Moses and the Prophets?

1 Corinthians 15

The Scriptures Testify about Jesus

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He (Jesus) explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself.”  Luke 24:27

“You, (religious experts) pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess Eternal Life. These are the very Words that Testify about Me, (Jesus),  John 5:39.

King David, the anointed King of Israel, a Hebrew from the tribe of Judah, wrote about The Good News of YHVH’s Salvation in the 10th Century; 1040-970 B.C.  (Click Here to learn more about why YHVH’s Name was replaced by LORD)

“Sing to the LORD (יְהוָֹה YHVH), Bless His Name; Proclaim the Good News of His Salvation from day to day.” Psalm 96:2

“His Name shall endure Forever; His Name shall increase as long as the sun shines.  In Him shall All nations be Blessed; they shall call Him blessed.”  Psalm 72:17

About 500 years before David, Moses was given the Torah; Instructions in The Way of Truth and Life.  The Spiritual Good News was also revealed by the physical copy Moses was instructed to build, of what he was shown in the Heavenly/Spiritual.

“See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” Hebrews 8:5; Hebrews 9:23; Hebrews 10:1; Exodus 25:9Exodus 25:40; Exodus 27:8Exodus 26:30Colossians 2:17; Revelation 15:5

More than 500 years before Moses, Abraham was given a Spiritual blessing; the Seed who would come through him would be the One Who would Bless All people.

Do We Understand the Good News like Abraham Did?

“The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the gentiles/nations by faith, and foretold the Good News to Abraham:  All nations will be Blessed through you.”  Galatians 3:8

“…and All the Families, Tribes, Clans, (מִשְׁפָחָה Mishpahcah #4940) of the earth will be Blessed (בָרַךְ Barak #1288) through you.” Genesis 12:3

“Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and through him All the nations of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 18:18

And through your Seed All nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” Genesis 22:18

And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your Seed All the families of the earth will be blessed.’” Acts 3:25

Abraham was blessed physically, but he died with hope in the Spiritual blessings; the Victorious Seed and the Spiritual City with foundations built by the Spiritual architect:

For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Hebrews 11:10Isaiah 14:32Hebrews 11:16; Hebrews 12:22; Hebrews 13:14; Revelation 21:2

In Genesis 17:1-8 Abram’s name is changed to Abraham, meaning, “father of many nations.”  He is told he will be exceedingly fruitful and given an Everlasting/Spiritual Covenant that would be established between him and his Seed:

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his Seed.  The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your Seed,” meaning One, who is Christ/Messiah,” Galatians 3:16

Abraham is also promised a Spiritual inheritance, evidenced by the fact that he did not receive the blessing while he was living:

“And to you and your Seed I will give the land of your sojourn—all the land of Canaan—as an Eternal (Spiritual) possession; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:8

He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground.  But God promised to give possession of the land to Abraham and his Seed, even though he did not yet have a child.”  Acts 7:5

The Spiritual Inheritance

“Therefore Messiah (the Promised Seed) is the mediator of a re-new-ed (Spiritual) covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised Eternal (Spiritual) Inheritance, now that He has died to redeem them from the transgressions, (curse of Sin and Death) committed under the first covenant.”  Hebrews 9:15

“The LORD (יְהוָֹה YHVH) knows the days of the Blameless, (Tamim #8549): and their Inheritance shall be Forever, (Spiritual).”  Psalm 37:18

For the evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD (יְהוָֹה YHVH) will inherit the land10 Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.  But the humble will inherit the land and delight in abundant prosperity.”  Psalm 37:9-11

“Blessed are the humble, for they will Inherit the earth, (the Renewed earth).” Matthew 5:5

Life in The Kingdom of YHVH

Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now, My kingdom is not of this realm.” John 18:36

Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 1 Corinthians 15:50

Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the Kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

The Good News is Revealed in The Scriptures

The “Good News” and “Gospel” are used interchangeably to refer to the New Testament of the Bible, more specifically the accounts of Jesus’ Birth, Ministry, Death and Resurrection, found in the first four books of Matthew, Mark Luke and John.

Yet long before the New Testament letters were compiled into a book, the Good News and lineage of Jesus, (a.k.a. the promised Seed, the Messiah) was verified by searching the Scriptures;  the Torah, Prophets and Writing that matched up to Torah.

“Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the Good News I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm. 2By this Good News you are Saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ/Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

To this He called you through our Good Newsso that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus (YHVH’s Salvation) Christ/Messiah. ”  2 thessalonians 2:14

“I am not ashamed of the Good News, because it is the power of God (YHVH) for Salvation to everyone who believes… Romans 1:16

And in Him, having heard and believed the Word of Truth the Good News of your Salvation you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,”  Ephesians 1:13

Now the Berean’s were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.” Acts 17:11

The Curse is Death and The Blessing is Life

The Hebrew word for Blessing is “Barak,” meaning to kneel, or to present a gift, in this sense, giving Life.  To curse, “Arar” is used in contrast to Life, being without or out from under the Blessing of Life is death:

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you Life and death, the Blessing and the curse.  So choose Life in order that you may Live, you and your descendants,” Deuteronomy 30:19Jeremiah 21:8

That is why the Good News is also called a “Mystery.” A Spiritual mystery that has been revealed in the Spiritual/Eternal Scriptures; 1 Peter 1:25; Psalm 119:89Romans 7:14Revelation 14:6.

Jesus Announces that He Is the Good News

“The Spirit of the Lord, YHVH (יְהוִֹה) is on Me, because He has Anointed (מָשַׁח Machach) Me to proclaim Good News to the humble, (עָנָו anav).  He has sent Me to call/read (קָרָא qara) liberty (דְּרוֹר deror) to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, Luke 4:18; Isaiah 61:1

Then He sat down and announced to everyone in the Synagogue:

“Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”Luke 4:21

In Conclusion

I hope this sheds some light on the Spiritual mystery of the Good News.  Now when someone proclaims that Jesus died for our sins so we can have Life, you may have a better understanding of what they mean.

Maybe you’ll even be able to help them open their Spiritual eyes by showing them these mysteries that have been revealed in the Scriptures.
