How to Spot a False Prophet

The Original Test of a False Prophet Still Stands

The Hebrew word Prophet is Navi, #5030.  The English equivalent would be, a Speaker or a Spokesman.  Knowing that anyone could, and still can, claim to be a Spokesman for God, mankind was given a complete, unchanging plume-line of Truth.

The Hebrew word Torah, #8451, Is our Creator’s Word of Truth, His Plum-line showing us the straight and level path that leads to Him, Life.

God’s Word Was, Is and Always Will Be, Truth.  A False speaker/prophet can be detected as soon as they Add, Subtract, or lead people away from God’s Words.

God’s Word is called Torah in Hebrew, roughly meaning Teaching/Instruction.  Torah is also referred to in Scripture as the Way, Truth and Life.  If the words of a prophet match Torah, (the first five books of the Bible) they were also referred to as Scripture.  TNK is an acronym for the Scriptures, it stands for Torah/Teaching, Navi/Prophets and Ketuvim/Writings.

At the time of Jesus/Yeshua, 1 Century A.D., portions of the TaNaK were read each Sabbath in the Synagogues, Acts 15:21.  These were the Scriptures the Bereans searched to see if what Paul and Silas were saying was True, Acts 17:11.

If any of the New Testament writings would have claimed the Torah was abolished, corrupt or even old and replaced by the new, they would have been recognized immediately as false.

God’s Word warns us ahead of time to beware, knowing we are tested by God to see who remains faithful to His Word, Deuteronomy 4:2.

“even if an angel from heaven should preach good news contrary to the message we preached to you, let him be under a curse.” Galatians 1:8 .

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the Word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8

Y’shua (Jesus) Revealed He Is, Was and Always Will Be God’s Word.

My first understanding of the Bible was that Jesus gave us a New Testament making the first Testament, Old.  But one day it dawned on me that Jesus only taught from the Old Testament.  As a matter of fact, every 1st century writer only referred to the Old Testament as being the “Living, Spiritual, Word of God.”  Hebrews 4:12; Acts 7:38; Romans 7:14

Their letters/writings were not compiled into a book called the New Testament until the 4th Century A.D.

So when noble people, like the Berean’s, hear Speakers testifying about Y’shua, they searched the Scriptures, what we call the “old Testament,” to see if their words were True.

“Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.” Acts 17:11 NIV

If a Teaching Doesn’t Match Up To Torah It Is False

With the New Testament in perspective, I began testing everything I believed to the plumb-line of God’s Word.  I humbled every prideful religious opinion I had when I realized there are no perfect translations.  Our cultural bias and indoctrinated theologians have created countless religious divisions out of One God, One Spirit, One Truth and One Assembly of faithful believers.

Y’shua, (Jesus) did not add, subtract, abolish or change Torah in any way.  If our translations make it appear that He did we need to test the words to the original Hebrew.  Y’shua Is The Word/Torah of God, this means He Is The Way, The Truth and The Life.

He did not speak His own words, John 14:24.

He explained the Scriptures testify about Him and He fulfilled what they said about Him, John 5:39;  Luke 24:27.

The Way to Life and the way to death have been clearly defined, Deuteronomy 30:15.

In the Way of Righteousness is Life, And in its pathway there is no death.” Proverbs 12:28

  1. Question
in the OT it says if a woman is caught in the act of adultery she was to be stoned. When Jesus was confronted with the issue He said let the one who is without sin throw the first stone. When someone tries to discount the OT they throw this scripture out. Can you help me understand what the truth in this confounding issue is?

    1. Thank you for your question William, my Bible has a footnote that says John 7:53-8:11 was added in the 5th Century A.D. This section is not found in the earliest manuscripts. I hope you will always read everything through the lens of Torah. The 1st Century, New Testament, letters were not collected into a book or canonized for hundreds of years after they had been in circulation and copied. Although they are very helpful in revealing the mysteries concealed in the TaNaK they are not to be used to add or take away from the Eternal/Spiritual Torah. We will never be confused if we only believe the words that match up to the plum-line of Truth.

      Shalom Aleichem
