How to Spot a Liar
“If a prophet or dreamer of dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you, 2 and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,” 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. For the LORD (YHVH) your God is testing you to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 You are to follow the LORD (YHVH) your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold Him fast.”Deuteronomy 13:1-4
It’s called the Deuteronomy 13 Test
This test reveals both the deceiver and the deceived. Our Creator’s Torah is the unchanging Way of Truth and Life. Without any gauge of reality we would be, and have been, convinced by any dreamer, especially when what they proclaim comes about:
So the deceiver is convincing, even to the elect, but the faithful, who know and do YHVH’s Word, will recognize a test the second someone attempts to lead them away from His Commandments.
“They suppose the dreams that they tell one another will make My people forget My Name, just as their fathers forgot My Name through the worship of Ba’al.” Jeremiah 23:27
We Are All Tested
The False prophet is one who leads us away from YHVH’s Name and His Commandments. Has your Bible replaced YHVH’s Name with LORD? Have you been taught His commandments were abolished on the cross?
YHVH (He Is, Was and Shall Be) identified by this Name forever, Exodus 3:15. It’s the Name we bear, Acts 15:17; the Name Yehushua (Jesus) made known and the Name that will be proclaimed in all the earth:
“Thus says the LORD (יְהוִֹה YHVH) who made the earth, the LORD (יְהוִֹה YHVH) who formed it and established it, the LORD (יְהוִֹה YHVH) is His Name:” Jeremiah 33:2
The Hebrew word Prophet is Navi, #5030, an English equivalent would be, a Speaker or a Spokesman.
The Hebrew word Torah, #8451, means Instruction in the Way of Truth and Life.
Just as YHVH’s Exists His Word Was, Is and Always Will Be, Truth. A False speaker can be detected as soon as they Add, Subtract, or lead people away from His eternal Word.
If the words of a prophet match Torah, (the first five books of the Bible) they are also referred to as Scripture. The TaNaK is an acronym for Torah, Navi, Ketuvim/Writings.
At the time of Yehushua (Jesus), portions of the TaNaK were read each Sabbath in the Synagogues, Acts 15:21. These were the Scriptures the Bereans searched to see if what Paul and Silas were saying was True, Acts 17:11.
If any of the New Testament writings would have claimed the Torah was abolished or corrupted they would have been recognized immediately as a liar.
God’s Word warns us ahead time that those who add to, or subtract from, His Word are deceivers, Deuteronomy 4:2.
“even if an angel from heaven should preach good news contrary to the message we preached to you, let him be under a curse.” Galatians 1:8
“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the Word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8
YHVH and His Word are Everlasting
My first understanding of the Bible was that Jesus gave us a New Testament making the first Testament, Old. Until one day it dawned on me that the New Testament writings weren’t compiled into the book we have today until 367 A.D.
So when noble people, like the Berean’s, heard Speakers testifying about Yehushua, they searched the Scriptures, what we now call the “old Testament,” to see if their words were True.
“Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.” Acts 17:11 NIV
If a Teaching Doesn’t Match up It’s False
With the New Testament in perspective, I began testing everything I believed to the plumb-line of God’s Word. I began to humble my religious opinions and began to realize there are no perfect translations.
Our cultural bias and indoctrinated theologians have created countless religious divisions, but God Is One. There is One Spirit, One Truth and One Assembly of those who faithfully keep His Commandments.
Yehushua (Jesus) did not add, subtract, abolish or change what was already Perfect, Complete, Eternal. He Is the Torah, the Way of Truth and Life became flesh and dwelt among us, John 1:14.
If our translations make it appear that Yehushua added to, or took away from, the Torah then we need to test those teachings to the original Hebrew Scriptures because He would have known the sign of a false prophet.
He said Himself, He did not come to abolish the Torah or Prophets:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17
If He would have added or removed would have been speaking His own words and He said He did not speak His own words, John 14:24.
The Way to Life and the way to death have been clearly and eternally been defined, Deuteronomy 30:15.
“In the Way of Righteousness is Life, And in its pathway there is no death.” Proverbs 12:28
