Proverbs Chapter 1 English With Hebrew

Proverbs Chapter 1

The Head/Beginning of Knowledge

1.  The proverbs, (מָשָׁל mashal #4912) of Solomon, (שְׁלמֹה Shelomoh #8010) son, (בֵּן ben #1121) of David, (דָּוִד Dawveed #1732) King, (מֶלֶךְ Melek #4428) of Israel (יִשְׂרָאֵל Yisrael #3478):
2.  To Know, (יָדַע Yada #3045) Wisdom, (חָכְמָה Chokmah #2451 from Chakam) and Correction, (מוּסָר Musar #4148 from Yasar); to Understand (בִּין Bin #995) words (אֵמֶר emer #567 from amar) with Distinctive Understanding, (בִּינָה Binah #998 from Bin);
3.  To receive, (לָקַח laqack #3947) Correction, (מוּסָר Musar #4148) Prudently, (שָׂכַל Sakal #7919); what is Right, (צֶדֶק Tzedeq #6664) Just, (מִשְׁפָט Mishpat #4941) and Impartial, (מֵישָׁר Meshar #4339 from Yashar).
4.  Giving, (נָתַן Nathan #5414) shrewdness, (עָרְמָה ormah #6195 from arom) to the naive, (פְתִי pethi #6612) to the youth, (נַעַר na’ar #5288) Knowledge, (דַּעַת Daath #1847 from Yada) and Discretion, (מְזִמָּה Mezimmah #4209 from Zamam).
5.  The Wise, (חָכָם Chakam #2450) will Hear and Obey, (שָׁמַע Shama #8085) and increase, (יָסַף yasaph #3254) learning, (לֶקַח leqach #3948)The Understanding, (בִּין Bin #995), will posses, (קָנָה qanah #7069) Guidance, (תַּחְבֻּלָה Tachbulah #8458),
6.  to Understand, (Bin #995) a proverb/parable, (mashal #4912) and its imitation/figure, (melitzah #4426 from litz) the words, (dabar #1697) of the Wise, (Chakam #2450) and their riddles(chidah #2420).
7.  Reverential fear, (Yirah #3374 from Yare) of the *Living One (יְהוָֹה YHVH #3068) is the head/beginning, (reshith #7225) of Knowledge, (Daath #1847) but fools, (evil #191) despise, (buz #936) Correction, (Musar #4148).

The Enticement to Offend/Sin

8.  Hear and Obey, (Shama #8085) my child, (ben #1121) your father’s (אָב ab #1) Correction, (Musar #4148), do not forsake (נָטַשׁ natash #5203) your mother’s (אֵם em #517) Instruction, (Torah #8451).
9.  For (כִּי Ki #3588) they (הֵם hem #1992) are Favor/Grace, (Chen #2580), to your head, (rosh #7218) and a necklace, (anaq #6060) around your neck, (gargeroth #1621).
10.  My child, (ben #1121) if (im #518) offenders, (chatta #2400) entice you, (pathah #6601) do not, (al #408) consent/yield, (abah #14).
11.  If, (אִם Im #518) they say, (אָמַר amar #559) “come, (הָלַךְ halak #1980) with us, (אֵת ayth #854) let us lay in wait, (אָרַב arab #693) for blood, (דָּם dam #1818)Let us hide away, (צָפַן tzaphan #6845) guiltless/innocent, (נָקִי naqi #5355), for/of nothing, (חִנָּם chinnam #2600),
12.  let us swallow them up (בָּלַע bala #1104) like the grave, (sheol #7585), alive, (chai #2416) and whole, (tamim #8549 from tamam), bringing them down, (yarad #3381) to the pit, (bowr #953),
13.  we will find, (matzah #4672) all, (kol #3605) precious, (yaqar #3368) wealth, (hon #1952).  We will fill, (malae #4390) our houses, (bayith #1004) with plunder, (shalal #7998),
14.  cast down your, (naphal#5307) lot, (goral #1486) among us, (tavek #8432) one, (echad #259) purse, (kees #3599) shall be (hayah #1961) for us all, (kol #3605).
15.  My child, (ben #1121) do not, (al #408) walk, (halak #1980) with them, (ayth #854). Hold back, (mana #4513) your foot, (regel #7272) from their path, (nathiyb #5410).
16.  Their feet (רֶגֶל regel #7272) run (רוּץ rutz #7323) to do bad, (ra #7451), they hunger oops hurry (מָהַר mahar #4116) to shed (שָׁפַךְ shaphak #8210) blood (דָּם dam #1818).
17.  It is useless, (חִנָּם chinnam #2600) to spread (זָרָה zarah #2219) a net (רֶשֶׁת resheth #7568) in the sight (עַיִן ayin #5869) of any, (kol #3605) winged/also refers to the corners of the Tallit (kanaph #3671) bird/owner (baal #1167).   See Malachi 4:2; Matthew 14:36; Mark 5:27.
18.  They (הֵם Hem #1992) ambush (אָרַב arab #693) for their own blood (דָּם dam #1818). They lurk secretly (צָפַן tzaphan #6845) for their own souls (נֶפֶשׁ nephesh #5315).
19.  So are the ways (אֹרַח orach #734) of all who are greedy (בָּצַע batza #1214) for gain, (בֶּצַע betza #1215) it takes away (לָקַח laqach #3947) the soul (נֶפֶשׁ nephesh #5315) of its owner, (בַּעַל baal #1167).

Wisdom Calls

20.  Wisdom, (חָכְמוֹת Chokmoth #2454) calls joyfully/gives a ringing cry, (רָנַן ranan #7442) in the street/in the open (חוּץ chutz #2351).  She utters/gives (נָתַן nathan #5414) her voice, (קוֹל qol #6963) in the town square, (רְחֹב rechob #7339).
21.  At the head (רֹאשׁ rosh #7218) of the roar, (הָמָה hamah #1993) she calls, (קָרָא qara #7121).  At the opening, (פֶתַח pethach #6607) of the city (עִיר Iyr #5892) gates, (shaar #8179) she speaks, (אָמַר amar #559) her words, (אֵמֶר emer #561):
22.  “How (עַד Ad #5704) long, (מָתַי mathay #4970) you naive, (פְתִי pithy #6612) will you love (אָהַב aheb #157) being simple minded (פְתִי pithy #6612)How long will scoffers (לוּץ lutz #3887) covet (חָמַד chamad #2530) scoffing, (לָצוֹן latson #3944) and fools (כְּסִיל kesil #3684) hate/turn from (שָׂנֵא sane #8130) Knowledge (דַּעַת Daath #1847)?
23.  Return, (שׁוּב Shub #7725) at my Reproof, (תּוֹכֵחָה Tokakaychah #8433).  Behold, (הִנֵּה  Hinneh #2009) I will pour (נָבַע naba #5042) out My Spirit (רוּחַ Ruach #7307) on you.  I will make you Know, (יָדַע Yada #3045) My Words (דָבָר Dabar #1697).
24.  Because (יַעַן Ya’an #3282) I called, (קָרָא qara #7121) and you have refused (מָאֵן maen #3985); I stretched (נָטָה natah #5186) out my hand (יָד yad #3027) and not one, (אַיִן ayin #369) listened, (קָשַׁב qashab #7121);
25.  And you neglect (פָרַע para #6544) all (כֹּל kol #3605) My Counsel, (עֵצָה Etzah #6098 from Yaatz) un/not(לֹא lo #3808) willing (אָבָה abah #14) of My Reproof, (Tokaychah #8433 from Yakach);
26.  I (אֲנַי Ani #589) also, (גַּם gam 1571) will laugh, (שָׂחַק sachaq #7832) at your calamity, (אֵיד ed #343 same as ud).  I will mock, (לָעַג laag #3932) when your dread, (פַחַד pachad #6343) comes, (בּוֹא bo #935);
27.  When dread, (פַחַד pachad #6343) comes, (bo #935) like a storm, (שַׁאֲוָה shaavah #7584); when calamity, (אֵיד ed #343) like the sea/wirlwind, (סוּפָה cuwphah #5492) and adversity/distress, (צָרָה tzarah #6869) and anguish, (צוֹק tzoq #6695) come (בּוֹא bo #935) pass (אָתָה athah #857) over (עַל al #5921),
28.  then (אָז az #227) they will call (קָרָא qara #7121) on Me, but I will not (לֹא lo #3808) answer (עָנָה anah #6030)They will seek, (shachar #7836) Me, but they will not find (מָצָא matzah #4672) Me;
29,  because (תַּחַת tachath #8478) they hated/turned away from, (שָׂנֵא sane #8130), Knowledge, (Daath #1847 from Yada) and did not choose, (בָּחר bachar #977) to revere/fear (יִרְאָה yirah #3374) the *Living One (יְהוָֹה YHVH #3068).
30.  Not, (לֹא lo #3808) willing, (אָבָה abah #14) of my council, (עֵצָה etzah #6098).  They spurned, (נָאַץ naatz #5006) all, (כֹּל kol #3605) My Reproof, (תּוֹכֵחָה Tokaychah #8433).
31.  So they will eat (אָכַל akal #398) of the fruit (פְרִי peri #6529) of their own way, and be filled with their own counsels, (moetsah #4156 from yaatz).
32.  For the turning away (meshubah #4878)) of the naive, (pethi #6612) will kill them, (harag #2026) and the complacency, (shalvah #7962) of the fool, (kesil #3684) will destroy, (abad #6) them.
33.  But whoever Hears and Obeys, (Shama #8085) Me will dwell, (shakan #7931) safely, (betach #983) and securely, (shaan #7599) from the dread, (pachad #6343) of adversity, (raah #7463 from roa).

*The Eternal Name, YHVH, literally translates; He Is, He Was, He Shall Be.
